Build a Cooke 2-6-0 in 1:20.3, The MLS Rolling Stock Challenge! - (part 3)
The tender is made per my very tyical, tried and tested method of building a framed styrene
flat car, with a styrene box on top, rounded in the corners using pipes, and clad over with rivet embossed 0.5mm
styrene wrappers.
More info about this type of construction can be found in MC2001, Chapter 7 and MC2002, Chapter 5.
The tender trucks were modified from some Bachmann Connie 2-8-0 trucks, with the leaf springs removed and timber beams added.
The selection of photos here show the loco 95% complete, and 99% complete, note how some shots have the tender trucks redone and
rear coupler added, while others do not! I also made a 2nd smokebox front, representing the other C&S style used on the Cooke
locos, a more flat door. I prefer this flatter door, but the original door can also be swapped out in 3 secs!
So I can choose!
Stan Cedarleaf is currently custom making a decal set for this loco, to be numbered C&S #7, from 1901.
The loco is complete with the exception of the lettering. A very big Thanks to Barry Olsen of Barry's Big Trains for
supplying me with the 2-6-0 drive train.
Here the Cooke 2-6-0 is shown completed, with lettering provided by Stan Cedarleaf.
The lettering style is based on the Colorado & Southern of early 1900.
