Martin's Spur 80, part 6

Now for the locomotive chassis (or Bogie). Martin begins with the American Bar frame, detailed to Mason's known construction. All the wheel journals are fully sprung.

Martin builds the steam truck pivot and pivoting steam pipes - all constructed to exacting Mason details.

The cylinders in construction.

Martin begins the rods and valve gear by setting up and making the pivoting side rods.

A view of Martin's Mason Bogie as seen in January 2006.

In July 2005, Fletch went to Swizerland and met up with Martin and family for a couple of day, in their small town outside of Bern. We visited the wood shop of the Viktoria Institute and enjoyed spending time with the children there as they worked on numerous wooden projects.

Here we see Martin and I (martin in the white), sitting beside one of his unfinished Mason 2-6-6T locos, inside the Viktoria Institute. Also running his Spur 80 railroad on the drive way at his home. The loco was one of Martin's 0-4-4T radio controlled battery powered Masons.
